Retro-toon Ashtray

This is my Prospect 100 grand challenge 8 submission (design an ashtray.) My design is themed around 1930s cartoons, a time when smoking was far more accepted and often appeared on children’s television. I have incorporated a drum gun along with the saying “who want smoke” and have used this to subtly send the message that smoking kills. Juxtaposing this message with the friendly appearing cartoons reflects on how showing children smoking on tv could be negatively influential. My concept was to create something that was appealing to smokers but would also get this message across. I have also taken inspiration from the Looney Tunes in/outro rings as I thought it fit with the general theme of the illustration and also added more depth to the background as it worked with the shape/ construct of the ashtray.
